Charles Stephen Anderson was born in 1872 and married Sarah Eugenia Gainer in 1896. Together they raised 4 sons (Stephen Walter, Charles Maxwell, Lambert M., Virgil B.) and 2 daughters (Sarah Matilda [Heath] and Ella [Barnes]).
The Anderson family historically had caught and supplied fish for the confederate forces during the civil war. When the war ended, the family took up residence south of the Econfina. At that time this area, now known as Southport, was called Anderson.
The family of Charles Stephen Anderson contributed to the growth of Panama City through a lifetime of commercial fishing , boat building, and the implementation of the party fishing industry.
